NFL fans on social media believe Patrick Mahomes was faking an injury as the Kansas City Chiefs dropped to 6-7 on the year after falling at home to the Houston Texans 20-10.

Sunday Night Football saw Kansas City’s hopes of securing a playoff berth further dented after losing to the Texans, whose defense made Mahomes’ life a misery. The Chiefs quarterback finished the game, completing 14-of-33 passes for 160 yards, while throwing three interceptions in the disastrous defeat.

Early on in the game at Arrowhead, Mahomes was also left shaken as he prayed for tackle Wayna Morris, who went down injured on the Chiefs’ first offensive snap. And then later on, Travis Kelce was at fault for one of Mahomes’ interceptions, with the veteran tight end’s dropped pass ending up in the hands of Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair.

Fans also believe that Mahomes was faking a knee injury, despite the fact that the Chiefs quarterback was spotted during the second half putting a heating pad on his left knee.

On a third-quarter scramble with Kansas City trailing 10-7, Mahomes was visibly limping, with NBC’s Mike Tirico pointing out his knee issue.

However, some fans on social media believe Mahomes was faking his limp. “Mahomes is always faking an injury when he is trailing,” wrote one fan.

Another added: “Patrick Mahomes limps every game!! Like bro, we know you’re faking! lol.”

A third wrote: “Oh Mahomes faking a knee injury after every drive now Jesus this man makes me sick.”

A fourth said: “He’s been doing that for years.”

And a fifth commented: “We got our fake Mahomes injury before Christmas!”

Speaking on the NBC broadcast, Cris Collinsworth defended Mahomes, stating that the Chiefs star would not be leaving the game under any circumstances.

However, it was clear that Mahomes was dealing with a knee issue after appearing on the Chiefs’ injury report in the buildup to the game against the Texans.

Kansas City’s hopes of making the playoffs now look increasingly slim, given that the team has lost tie-breakers to the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, and now the Texans, who all sit above KC in the AFC playoff picture.

Failure to make the postseason this year would mark the first time in the Mahomes and Andy Reid era that Kansas City has not made the playoffs, despite having reached the Super Bowl last season.

During Mahomes’ time as Kansas City’s starter, having taken over from Alex Smith in 2018, the Chiefs’ season has either ended at the AFC Championship game or the Super Bowl.
