Kardashian was recently criticized for letting North step out in what online critics called “non age-appropriate styles,” but the star asked for “grace” when it comes to anyone who is parenting a preteen
Kim Kardashian is opening up about being a mom to her expressive preteen.
In her Oct. 15 interview with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the reality star and actress, 44, shared how her 12-year-old daughter North West has taken after her love for beauty.
“I’ve had those conversations with North about makeup because she loves her lip liner,” said the SKIMS mogul, who added that her “door is wide open” to her kids and their friends. “And she’ll be like, but mom, I grew up literally my whole life sitting in your lap while you’re getting your makeup done, watching you do it.”

North has grown up around Kardashian’s glam squad so much that she considers the pros, including makeup artist and entrepreneur Mario Dedivanovic, as her “teachers.” And she’s even passing her tips onto her friends.
“I love that they’re… not grown [up],” the All’s Fair star said. “What they do on their weekends is, they go in the room and they do all their makeup” — but not any makeup, special affects makeup, which North is perfecting through the classes she’s been taking.
Although Kardashian’s way of parenting is her own, raising North in the public eye has not come without criticism. While the mother-daughter duo were out in Rome in September, the Kardashians star came under fire for letting North wear a dermal piercing on her middle finger. The style statement caused discussions on whether or not the piercing was age-appropriate.
However, Kardashian says North has a strong head on her shoulders. “She’s really mature in one sense where she’ll be like, ‘Mom, I saw this and I don’t really care that they don’t like… my blue hair or this or that. She’s really confident and is like, ‘I probably wouldn’t be hanging out with those people.'”
Kardashian even admitted that sometimes she does make mistakes, especially when allowing North to wear certain outfits, but all she asks for is a “little bit of grace.”
“I’m like, okay, we’re never wearing that again. Unfortunately, we made that mistake in front of the whole world,” she said, adding, “as a mom, you’re kind of like learning at the same time.”
Sitting down with Complex Style in September, Kardashian opened up about what her oldest kid has taught her about fashion and beauty.
“She has a really unique style. She puts me on to so many brands, like she just loves what she loves,” the mom of four said. “And it’s just really fun to see someone be so creative. And also know herself so much.”
In addition to North, Kardashian also shares sons Saint, 9, and Psalm, 6, and daughter Chicago, 7 with ex Kanye West.
