Travis Kelce did not practice with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday after briefly limping out of Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings with an ankle injury.
Kelce, whose new love interest Taylor Swift decided against attending her third straight Chiefs game in Minneapolis, appeared to slip on the turf and twist his ankle during the second quarter at US Bank Stadium.
After heading to the locker room for x-rays on his problem, the Kansas City tight end eventually returned to the field during the third quarter – and he went on to record a game-winning touchdown catch in a 27-20 victory for the Super Bowl champions.
Though despite going through the pain barrier on Sunday night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Kelce missed Chiefs practice the following day, making him a doubt for Thursday’s game against the Denver Broncos at Arrowhead.
As well as the Chiefs star himself, fans have been speculating as to whether Swift will return to Arrowhead on Thursday to cheer on Kelce again after missing the win in Minnesota.
The pop sensation has attended two Chiefs games this season amid her budding new relationship with Kelce, which has set the internet ablaze over the past month.
The first came during Week 3, when KC beat the Chicago Bears in a landslide at home.
The following week, Swift made an appearance at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands – a building she’s quite familiar with – to watch the Chiefs eek out a close win over the Jets.
But the attendance streak stopped this past week – when she decided to not make the trek up to Minnesota for Sunday’s game against the Vikings.
Swift missed her new beau battle through injury to return to the field and haul in a four-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes with 2:45 to go in the third quarter, moving the Chiefs 14 points ahead in the game.
He caught the pass just in front of the goal line and dived into the end zone for his third touchdown of the season.
However, fans were left convinced that the injury he sustained during the second quarter was because Swift wasn’t in attendance.
In what is now being dubbed ‘The Curse of Taylor Swift’, fans are worried that her absence could negatively affect Travis’ performances going forward, as the Kansas City Chiefs chase back-to-back Super Bowls.
Swift’s fans also took it into their own hands to restart the age-old debate over grass vs turf, claiming that Kelce’s injury occurred due to the artificial surface in Minnesota.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one wrote: ‘I’m so devastated for Taylor. We KNOW how much Travis makes her happy. She had to be so worried right now.
‘She finally has a man who shows her love back and he got hurt on ARTIFICIAL TURF?
