Melania Trump has been accused of being ‘devoid of emotion’ as she appeared to struggle to read a Christmas book to children during a visit to Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C.

Melania Trump is facing criticism over what was intended to be a heartwarming moment during her visit to a children’s hospital on Friday.
The 55-year-old met with patients at Children’s National Hospital in Washington D.C., as she continued a decades-old tradition for first ladies. During the visit, Melania sat in a big red chair in front of a Christmas tree and read βHow Does Santa Go Down the Chimney,β by Mac Barnett to around two dozen children.
Melania, who was born in Slovenia, has previously claimed to speak at least five languages. But critics were quick to note that she appeared to be struggling to read out loud in English.

“Can Santa see in the dark? Does he wears night vision that make everyone green, everything green?” Melania read, slipping up on a few words. The first lady appeared to struggle to pronounce several words, including Christmas, correctly.
Several critics said it was difficult to understand the reading as they claimed Melania’s strong Slovenian accent is evidence of the Trump administration’s hypocrisy in the wake of the Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.

“She canβt even read properly, or speak English clearly! Thereβs no engagement with the children sheβs reading toβ¦Completely devoid of any emotion. The kids deserve better⦔ one X user wrote.
“So… Melania Trump struggles with reading out loud. wtf did you MAGAs do??? lol,” a second commented. A third noted: “From the most anti-immigrant administration ever. The irony is f—— insane.”
A fourth said: “I heard Melania Trump reading a Christmas story to children. If she was on the street talking, ICE would be detaining her.” Another joked: “Poor kids. Theyβll never think of Creeestmas the same again.”
After the reading, Melania wished the children strength and βlots of toys.”

βI’m sure Santa will visit all of you this Christmas and bring you a lot of toys, so i wish you all a very merry Christmas and happy new year,β she said. βI wish you a lot of strength and love.β
President Trump βis sending love and best wishes as well,” the first lady added. Melania spoke with children in the audience before going on to privately visit patients in the hospital’s hematology and oncology wing.
The first lady brought gifts for the patients, including tree ornaments stamped with βBe Best,β the name of her child well-being initiative. Melania’s visit to a children’s hospital over the festive period is part of a tradition started by Bess Truman, who was first lady from 1945 to 1953.
Keeping holiday traditions alive is one of the roles that Melania takes on as first lady, but she has indicated she’s not too fond of Christmas in the past.
Tapes secretly recorded in the summer of 2018 captured Melania asking “Who gives a f— about Christmas” as she complained about criticism over the Trump administration’s child separation policy at the southern border.
βThey say Iβm complicit. Iβm the same like him, I support him. I donβt say enough I donβt do enough where I am,β Melania said in a tape recorded by Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former friend and senior adviser to the first lady.
In the tape, which was published in 2020, she continued: βIβm working β¦ my a– off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f— about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?β
