A good pair of velvet pants will never go out of style.
Travis Kelce stepped out in pair of loose-fitting brown velvet pants ahead of the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Minnesota Vikings in Minnesota on Sunday, and while the pants are certainly an on-trend choice for the football star, they’ve also become internet fodder for Taylor Swift fans.
Kelce’s pants bear a striking resemblance to the velvet curtains Swift had in the background of all of her Midnights tracklist reveal TikTok videos. Over the course of her video series, the singer sits perched in front of a crushed velvet curtain that anyone handy with a sewing machine could easily turn into a pair of pants for 6’5″ tight end.
As soon as Kelce posted his look to Instagram — which also included a loose-fit white button-down shirt and a Louis Vuitton duffle — the comment section was instantly flooded with replies calling out the similarities to Swift’s curtains.
A few fans asked why Kelce was wearing “mother’s curtains,” referring to Swift, while others simply called them the “Midnights curtains.”
Always the good sport, Kelce took it in stride, replying to a few comments, even mentioning how “comfy” the pants are (and also admitting he had no idea if they were velvet or not).
Some of Swift’s fans also noted the similarities between Kelce’s pants and a brown velvet dress the singer wore for her Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions documentary. But you know what? Swift has been known to share fashion tips with her friends so it wouldn’t be a surprise if her style prowess has already started influencing Kelce as they spend more time together.
Swift and Kelce recently sparked dating rumors after the singer attended a couple of Kelce’s games.
Kelce previously revealed that he invited Swift to attend one of his games while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show podcast, teasing that he “threw the ball in her court” after seeing her perform at Arrowhead Stadium during her Eras Tour in July.
Amid relationship rumors, a source told PEOPLE the pair are still in the “super, super early days” of getting to know one another but are “having fun.” “They’re just hanging out, and there’s no pressure,” the source added.
