A celebratory handshake between Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes Sunday, while cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, drew mixed reviews on social media, as some were put off by the gestures, while others found it endearing.
Swift, 33, and Brittany, 28, were seen doing a handshake routine as they cheered on their respective partners – Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 28 – in their 31-17 drubbing of the Los Angeles Chargers.
‘This is more cringe for me,’ one user said, while another said, ‘This is so cringe just to get people to watch NFL football!’
Another noted that Brittany was also best friends with Kelce’s ex Kayla Nicole, while another said, ‘Make it stop.’
A user said of the Swift friendship with Brittany Mahomes: ‘Make it stop,’ while another said that the friendship seemed like a ‘publicity stunt,’ adding, ‘who practices a handshake?’
The two ‘WAGs’ have clearly bonded during their time together in the bleachers as they were captured shaking it off together in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium during Sunday’s game.
Taylor, with a drink in hand, and Brittany, holding her 11-month-old baby boy, Bronze, in her arms, swayed from side to side as they bopped their heads in time with each other.
Others found the gesture charming, amid initial speculation as to how they would get along after Swift’s high-profile romance with Kelce went public.
One user said, ‘Ok they’re besties,’ while another said, ‘Bestie already has a handshake figured out with her new bestie.’
The handshake appeared to correspond with an on-field handshake the reigning NFL champs put into play after touchdown drives, as Kelce was seen doing it.
Said one user: ‘Not Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce both doing handshakes at almost the same time. They are so beautiful together. They really are in love, think alike and act alike. Easily the cutest and most adorable relationship of the century.’

The new friends broke out their first handshake after the Chiefs’ first touchdown from a Mahomes pass to wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. They went wild as they jumped up and down and screamed in celebration before launching into their practiced handshake which wrapped up with a hip bump.
