Freshly signed Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. celebrated making it to the NFL by surprising his mother with the house of her dreams.
Mecole told his mom, Danyell Hardman, 45, he was taking her to brunch and then bowling, but after their meal, he actually took her to the Georgia home he had just bought for her, his father and his five-year-old little sister.
The 21-year-old NFL rookie shared the moment he revealed his generosity in a video posted on Twitter on July 18, writing: ‘I been dreaming of buying my mama a house since I was 8 and now to finally do it words can’t explain how happy i am [praying hands emoji] I love you ma x1000000000 [red heart emoji] It’s my turn to take care of you now [praying hands emoji].’
Mecole didn’t leave dad out, either, taking care of Mecole Hardman Sr., 46, with a brand new tricked out Dodge Challenger in the garage.
I’m just blessed,’ Danyell said in the video, while standing beside her son on the steps of the new family home.
Mecole, who will now don number 17 for the Chiefs, was ecstatic at his mother’s reaction to the purchase of the red brick home with white two columns framing each side of the front porch.
‘Whenever I get a chance, I’m going to bless my parents,’ he said.
Mecole played football at the University of Georgia before turning pro ahead of the 2019 NFL season.
The Chiefs selected Mecole in the second round of this year’s NFL draft with the 56th overall pick. He has since signed a four-year deal worth roughly $5 million, although just $2.3 million of that is guaranteed.
He knew right away he wanted to use his newfound riches to give his family the kind of stability he had dreamed of providing since he was eight years old.
‘It was a long time coming,’ Mecole told Today Home. ‘We never really had a definite home.’
Mecole said that was because his family moved around a lot when he was growing up, preventing them from putting down roots in one particular place.
To pull off the surprise, Mecole said he tricked his mom into thinking he was going to fix up the home she and his father and sister were already living in.
Then, he asked his dad what house she had her heart set on, and he went and paid for it.
‘I wanted something bigger and better for them, better for my little sister,’ he said. ‘I wanted her to grow up in great house and great neighborhood.’
Mecole told his mom he was taking her to a group bowling outing after brunch, and said she fought him getting into the van.
Then they pulled up to the house, complete with a second story, basement and swimming pool in the backyard.
