After a victorious 2019-2020 NFL season, where he led the Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIV, their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, Mahomes became the youngest quarterback to ever be named MVP at age 24. He went on to sign a record-breaking 10-year, $503 million contract—one of the biggest in the history of sports. In 2021, he once again led the Chiefs to the Super Bowl, where they ultimately fell short against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ Relationship Timeline
Here, we look back on the biggest milestones throughout Patrick and Brittany Mahomes’ love story, beginning with their engagement in 2020.

August 2020: Patrick Mahomes Proposes to Brittany Matthews

Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews got engaged on August 1, 2020. The romantic proposal, which happened one day after Matthews’ 25th birthday, took place in a VIP box at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, just after the team received their Super Bowl 54 rings. The bride-to-be shared a glimpse into the proposal set up on Instagram, which included lush arrangements of white flowers and light-up marquee letters that spelled “Will You Marry Me,” writing, “So this happened today!”

The NFL star gave the first look at Matthews’ engagement ring, an elongated emerald-cut diamond on a double pavé band, on his Instagram Story with the caption “Ring SZN.” After she said yes, the couple enjoyed a private candle-lit dinner to mark their engagement status. “My heart is so full,” Matthews wrote on Instagram. “Couldn’t imagine this day being any more perfect!”

February 2021: Brittany Matthews & Patrick Mahomes’ Daughter Joins The Family

In October 2020, just two months after getting engaged, Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Matthews announced they were expecting their first child together, due in February 2021. “Mom & Dad, taking a small detour to the wedding❤️,” Matthews captioned the reveal on Instagram, which highlighted her growing bump. The two openly gushed about their excitement for their first baby. “Hopefully right after the Super Bowl, I’m able to bring a little girl into this world,” Mahomes remarked on the Kansas City radio show The Drive in December. “And [I] get to become a dad in the offseason and get to see that process as well.”

Weeks after Mahomes’ second Super Bowl appearance, he and Matthews welcomed their daughter, Sterling Skye, on February 20. Mahomes posted a photo of his baby girl’s hand wrapped entirely around his fiancée’s finger.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take long for their little one to attend her first sporting event. The couple shared photos of Sterling’s appearance at a Kansas City Royals baseball game on Opening Day 2021. (She even wore a custom Mahomes shirt for the occasion.) Now, she frequently joins her mom to cheer on Mahomes from the sidelines of his football games.

March 2022: Brittany and Patrick Mahomes’ Wedding Takes Place

Is Patrick Mahomes married? The answer is yes! On March 12, 2022, Patrick Mahomes and wife Brittany Matthews got married in Maui, Hawaii. Their long-awaited destination wedding, planned by industry maven Mindy Weiss, occurred just over a year after Mahomes popped the question in 2020. The lavish party was a family affair: Their daughter, Sterling, joined them for photos at the altar (while donning her own white wedding dress), and Mahomes’ brother, Jackson, served as his best man. Mahomes’ teammate Travis Kelce was also a groomsman, while his then-girlfriend Kayla was a bridesmaid. The bride wore a sexy Versace wedding dress with cutouts on the bodice, while the groom opted for a gray suit with printed shoes.

Looking back on her wedding day, Brittany took to Instagram to reflect on her favorite moments, including the romantic vow swap, Sterling’s ceremony entrance in a mini Bentley, and a Rock, Paper, Scissors battle that led into the newlyweds’ first dance at the reception.

November 2022: Brittany Matthews & Patrick Mahomes’ Son Is Born

The excitement surrounding Brittany and Patrick Mahomes’ wedding certainly didn’t die down. A mere two months later, the Mahomes’ announced their next big life update: they’d be welcoming a second child into their growing family. The newlyweds shared the happy news on Instagram with photos of their daughter, Sterling, holding a letter board with the message, “Big Sister Duties Coming Soon.”

At the couple’s gender reveal party in June 2022, they learned that they were expecting a son. He made his arrival on November 28, 2022, as marked by an Instagram post showing the newborn lying on a blanket with “Mahomes” printed all over. The caption simply announced his name, which was inspired by his father: Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III. Though he was too young to attend a game at the time, Brittany shared an Instagram reel featuring a photo of their little one at home watching Mahomes lead the Chiefs to their AFC Championship win over Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, thus securing their spot in Super Bowl LVII.
