The Jets’ defense solidified their pressure on Mahomes after falling behind in the first quarter. New York’s pass rushers and secondary coverage intensified, making things difficult for the reigning MVP throughout most of the night. Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared his advice for Mahomes in those challenging moments during Monday’s Zoom press conference.

“Well, no one knows better than what the player does when they do something bad,” Reid explained. “I mean, you know, it’s there. If they’re competitive, they feel more than more than anybody. So my point is, Listen, you do what got you there, and that’s attacking.

“If you need to check it down as part of the attack, check it down in there; they’re settling deep, check it down, and keep firing, keep going. A lot of game left to play. So he’s positive that way. He knows all of that. And he’ll normally say something to me before I say something. So I think, yeah, you’ve got to keep firing.”

Mahomes rarely struggles in a game but still found a way to power his team to victory and sacrificed a late-game touchdown run to seal the win.
