Brittany Mahomes has opened up on learning some hard life lessons as she inadvertently rose to fame alongside her Super Bowl winning husband, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
They are one of the most famous couples in the NFL but while Patrick, 27, would have been prepared for fame to follow him away from the football field, Brittany had to learn to live with it.
Speaking to CBS Mornings on Monday Brittany, also 27, said: ‘I was not prepared for this. And at such a young age. We were in love and I loved him with all of my heart. But, you know, I didn’t expect it to skyrocket this soon, and us kind of just being thrown into the fire like this.’
In January 2022, she went viral when she sprayed Chiefs fans with champagne from her private suite at the Arrowhead Stadium and was taken aback at the response.
‘When I started posting on Instagram me screaming and getting rowdy in the suite… I think the first time I did that it got blown up — and it’s like, ‘She’s crazy, this is too much.’
‘I ultimately learned that you don’t have to share everything that you do in your life.’ She also was on the receiving end of a backlash in recent weeks when she shared a picture of her hugging a dolphin over Fourth of July weekend.
‘Ever snuggled a 400lbs dolphin?’ she asked in the caption. ‘Please educate yourself on dolphins in captivity! It is hell for these beautiful creatures,’ one person responded.
‘Clueless, it’s disgusting that you would go there and promote animal cruelty,’ another added. ‘I would never pay to support this type of tourism… Please educate yourself on this,’ someone else urged the former athlete.
Brittany’s post also attracted the attention of PETA, which also sought to educate her on the matter.
‘We know you love companion animals, but we hope to see you extend your compassion to marine life too,’ the animal rights organization wrote.
Brittany and Patrick got married in March and have two children together – a two-year-old daughter and a six-month old son.
