Meghan Markle has been accused of “arrogance” after discussing her royal title in an interview promoting her new Netflix series.
In a candid interview ahead of the release of her show With Love, Meghan, which premiered today, Meghan revealed that the Sussex title holds more significance than she initially thought. Speaking to People Magazine, she said, “It’s our shared name as a family, and I guess I hadn’t recognized how meaningful that would be to me until we had children.
“I love that that is something that Archie, Lili, H and I all have together. It means a lot to me.” However, critics were quick to point out that Sussex is Meghan’s title, not her surname.
One critic took to Twitter to express their views, writing, “Excuse me but #MeghanMarkle wants you to know that her last name is Sussex. Not so fast, Markle. Not in the US. We don’t have titles and ‘of Sussex’ is a title. Had you stayed in the UK? Sure. You just decided a year or so ago to use Sussex for your mystery kids. The pretentious arrogance is WILD. Titles mean nothing here. Deal with it.”
Some royal watchers are less than impressed with Meghan’s comments, with one stating, “Your last name is Windsor- Mountbatten, Sussex is your title! A prestigious name for this moron who appreciates nothing.” Others chimed in with critiques as well, as a third noted, “She doesn’t even know her name. It’s not Sussex; that is not what she has on her children’s birth certificates.”
But Meghan has also been showered with adoration since her newest series premiered earlier today, reports the Express. The show kicked off with the Duchess of Sussex handling bees while advising, “The biggest thing is keeping a low tone – talk in our bee voice.”
Fans were quick to take to social media praising the “beautiful” scenes immediately after the episode aired. One person expressed enthusiasm on X/Twitter, “BEES!!! The music and everything is so beautiful #WithLoveMeghan.” Praise also came from another fan who commented, “The music is on point #WithLoveMeghan.”
