Ethan Katzberg has spoken out amid viewers of the Olympics calling for him to take a DNA test, as well as making some very favorable comparisons. Katzberg has been representing Canada in this year’s Olympics and recently became the youngest ever men’s Olympic hammer throw gold medalist at the age of 22. He achievement also marks the first Canadian to win a medal in the hammer throwing event since 1912.
But his historic moment isn’t the only thing that’s peaked people’s interest in Katzberg – his appearance has also been a topic of conversation of late. Undeniably the Canadian bares an uncanny resemblance to that of an Australian guy, so much so that people are calling for him to have a DNA test to prove that he’s actually from Canada. “Nah I want a DNA test this man is clearly Australian,” one person penned on Twitter about Katzberg.
“They’re just appropriating the Aussie male look,” added a second, as a third hailed Katzberg as a ‘secret Aussie’. Elsewhere, the 22-year-old athlete has been compared to Marvel comic book character Thor, who just so happens to be played by Australian actor Chris Hemsworth in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Now, Katzberg has addressed the apparent internet stir he’s caused, with CGTN America reporter Dan Williams asking Katzberg what he makes of the Australia and Thor comparisons. “It’s great to see that people are connecting me with so many people I would never think about and the Australian one is new, but that’s great,” the gold medalist replied.
“I’m happy to see people gathering interest in me and hammer throwing and being able to make those connections.” I mean, there are definitely worse things to be compared to. In light of the Thor comparisons, Williams went on to ask: “Do you don’t expect a call from Hollywood any time soon? You know, ‘We need a new Thor, Chris Hemsworth can’t do it?'”
Chuckling, Katzberg responded: “They haven’t seen my acting skills yet, so I don’t know.” I think that was his polite way of saying that he doesn’t plan on ending his sports career in the near future…
